Today's Big Losers: TSO, VLO, CVI, MIND

Oil refinery operator Tesoro (NYSE:TSO) announced it priced an offering of 300 million dollars of senior notes due 2019; the interest rate will be 9.75%. Tesoro will use the offering proceeds to repay existing debt, as well as for capital expenditures. Tesoro shares fell about 13% Wednesday morning.

Valero (NYSE:VLO) shares dropped over 15% after the company said it expects a net loss for the quarter of 50 cents per share, and announced an offering of 40 million shares of common stock.

CVR Energy (NYSE:CVI) said its subsidiary agreed to reduce the notional amount of a funded letter of credit from $150 million to $60 million. CEO Jack Pipinski said the company was pleased by the reduction, as it will save $5 million in interest costs over the next 12 months. That didn't prevent CVI shares from falling Wednesday morning, down about 12%.

Mitcham Industries (NASDAQ:MIND) lost a penny per share in the quarter, compared with earnings of 41 cents per share in the same quarter last year. CEO Bill Mitcham said that although the first quarter is typically the strongest quarter of the year, this year the normal pick-up in activity did not materialize. Despite the difficult economic environment, Mitcham said he does see some encouraging signs, and believes the company is positioned well to manage its way through the downturn. Mitcham shares were off over 12% in early trading Wednesday.
