London Gainers: WOS, LGEN, AZN Monday, September 28, 4:21 PM ET
Despite pre-tax losses of over 760 million pounds in the year ending July, building supplies group Wolseley saw their stock up over 11% today on about eight times normal volume after beating analyst expectations.
And, The Sunday Telegraph reported that insurer Legal & General was working to halt a takeover from Resolution plc, a UK insurance company. Investors seemed to like the news, as Legal & General's stock closed up over five and a quarter percent today.
Drugmaker AstraZeneca saw their stock higher today in London after a United States court of appeals held the decision in AstraZeneca's (NYSE:AZN) infringement claim against Teva (NASDAQ:TEVA) and Sandoz. Additionally, there have been rumors of a possible bid for AstraZeneca which is adding fuel to the fire. AZN Shares are up almost 3% today.
