Sunrise Senior Living (NYSE:SRZ) announced it completed the sale of 21 assisted living communities to an affiliate of Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE:BKD), for 204 million dollars. Net of mortgage debt and other expenses, Sunrise received 60 million dollars in net proceeds from the sale and expects to record a 50 million dollar gain. Shares of Sunrise advanced more than 16 and a half percent.

Solar photovoltaic products manufacturer Trina Solar (NYSE:TSL) reported third quarter earnings of a dollar 29 per diluted American Depositary Share, up from a dollar 17 in the same quarter last year. Net revenue fell just over 14% year over year, but surged 66 and a half percent quarter over quarter. Shipment volumes and gross margin both exceeded prior guidance. Shares were up about 4% early Thursday.

And retailer New York & Company (NYSE:NWY) reported a third quarter loss of 11 cents per share, which compares to a 13 cent loss in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales fell 8.4%, but showed a sequential improvement from the prior quarter. The company said the month of October showed the best monthly sales comparisons in over a year. Investors were encouraged by the report, and sent shares soaring more than 17 and a half percent.
