James Hardie (NYSE:JHX) announced a $37.6 million net operating profit, excluding asbestos, ASIC expenses and tax adjustments for the quarter, up 4% compared to the same quarter last year. Profit was stronger than expected, and the stock is up in midday trading.
Shares of James Hardie are currently higher by almost 9%.
People's United Financial (NASDAQ:PBCT), the holding company for People's United Bank, announced they will be acquiring Financial Federal Corporation (NYSE:FIF) in a stock and cash transaction valued at approximately $738 million.
Shares of Financial Federal are soaring on the news, currently up almost 31%.
Allied Nevada Gold (AMEX:ANV) reported its first positive quarterly earnings in the third quarter with net income of $5.1 million, or $0.08 per share for the third quarter of 2009. The company's cost of gold declined to $364 per ounce in the third quarter, while their average realized price of gold was $955 per ounce for the quarter.
Shares of Allied Nevada Gold are trading up nearly eight and half percent so far today.
