Friday Earnings Big Gainers: MGA, TC, MFW Friday, November 6, 3:21 PM ET
Automotive supplier Magna International (NYSE:MGA) posted earnings of 45 cents per share in the third quarter, up from a loss of a dollar 93 in Q3 of 2008. Vehicle production was down 20% year over year, and total sales fell 16%. Magna shares advanced about 10 and a half percent following the report.
Shares of Thomson Creek Metals (NYSE:TC) gained nearly 9%, after investors were pleased with third quarter results and forward production guidance for 2010. For the quarter, the company earned 14 cents per diluted share, helped by higher realized prices and increased sales of molybdenum. The company said that due to an improved outlook for the molybdenum market, it intends to ramp up its mill operation from 78% of capacity all the way up to full capacity starting in January. That is expected to increase 2010 production by over 20% from 2009 levels.
And shares of M&F Worldwide (NYSE:MFW), a diversified company with businesses ranging from its Scantron testing systems serving educational customers, to its licorice business, gained 11% after reporting third quarter earnings. Although net revenues were down 6.6% year over year, operating income shot up 19.4%. And on an adjusted non-GAAP basis, net income was a dollar 87 per share.
