Factory Orders Rise Tuesday, November 3, 4:19 PM ET
The Commerce Department on Tuesday announced that U.S. factory orders rose 0.9 percent in September, ahead of the 0.8 percent economists had expected. Orders rose in the auto, heavy machinery, and military aircraft sectors.
Factories also reported that inventories fell by one percent, the thirteenth straight month of declines. Economists view this as good news, as it is more likely that future spending will be invested towards the production of new output.
The markets, however, shrugged off the news, due to the general fear that rising unemployment will stifle sustainable economic growth.
