Humana Earnings Surge, Forecasts Earnings to Shrink in 2010 Monday, November 2, 11:29 AM ET
Humana (NYSE:HUM) earnings surged 65 percent in the third quarter, to $301.5 million, or $1.78 per share, as compared to $183 million, or $1.09 per share, in the same quarter last year.
Revenue for the health insurer was up 8 percent, to $7.72 billion, boosted by lower prescription drug claims and higher Medicare enrollment.
Humana said its full-year 2009 earnings will total $6.15 per share, in the middle of its previously forecast range of $6.10 to $6.20 per share. But, the company projected earnings to shrink in fiscal 2010, to a range of $5.05 to $5.25 per share.
Humana shares are trading down over two percent Monday morning.
