Investors looking to add a little yield to their portfolio might want to take a look at Utilities ETFs. These ETFs hold a basket of stocks based both inside the United States and abroad.
Some of the highest yields on the list include the ProShares Ultra Utilities ETF (AMEX:UPW) that yields 2.3%, the PowerShares Dynamic Utilities ETF (AMEX:PUI) that yields 3.7% and the Vanguard Utilities ETF (AMEX:VPU) that yields 3.8%. All three ETFs listed above carry expense ratios lower than 1% and have at least thirty different stocks in their portfolios.
And while individual utilities like Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK), Exelon (NYSE:EXC) and Southern Company (NYSE:SO) all have yields greater than 5%, ETFs offer the added protection of diversity across their portfolio, making them the safer choice for investors.
