Global Holdings or Global Importance: Know Your ETF

The iShares S&P Global Technology Sector Index Fund (AMEX:IXN) is a fund, created in November 2001, that is made up of holdings that S&P deems part of the information technology sector of the economy and important to global markets, as represented by the Standard & Poor's Global Information Technology Sector Index.
Note that this does not mean the holdings themselves are globally diversified. Currently 74.67% of the holdings are classifed as United States, with another 8.99% in Japan.
Top holdings include Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG).
Year-to-date, the iShares S&P Global Technology Sector Index Fund is up about 4.75%. The NASDAQ Composite is up approximately 10.5% over the same period.
