Oil Majors ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Chevron To Report; Investors Should Look to ETFs

Three big oil companies are reporting earnings this week, and investors should consider various energy ETFs in their investment decisions.
ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) reports earnings on Wednesday, ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) reports on Thursday and Chevron (NYSE:CVX) reports on Friday. Some European oil companies report results this week, including Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS.A) on Thursday and Total (NYSE:TOT) on Friday.
In other big oil news this week, BP (BP) said today it has agreed to sell interests in four oilfields in the Gulf of Mexico to Japan’s Marubeni for $650 million. The assets were originally part of a package of properties BP bought from Devon Energy (DVN) early in the year. The company has been selling off assets to help pay for damages resulting from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill last spring.
The Energy Select Sector SPDR (AMEX:XLE) provides a broad exposure to this group of companies, as does the iShares Dow Jones US Energy ETF (AMEX:IYE). The Oil Service HLDRS (AMEX:OIH) allows investors to diversify into companies involved in oil drilling, such as Schlumberger (NYSE:SLB).
For exposure to the foreign oil companies, investors should look to the WisdomTree International Energy ETF (DKA).
