Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) and Acrux (ARUXF) announced today the Food and Drug Administration approved their topical testosterone solution Axiron.
The treatment is intended to replace the hormone in men with a testosterone deficiency or absence. Axiron delivers the hormone via an underarm applicator.
The companies estimate that 13 million men over 45 have symptoms associated with low testosterone.
Lilly shares are trading up 0.25% Wednesday.
Eli Lilly is the sixth-largest holding of the Pharmaceuticals HOLDRS (AMEX:PPH) ETF, at 5.41% of the portfolio.
Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) is the top stock, at 25.77% of the fund, followed by Pfizer (NYSE:PFE), at 18.16%, and Merck (MRK), at 16.39% of the fund.
Abbott Laboratories (ABT) and Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) round out the top five holdings.
