SunPower Updates Guidance, Sells Italian Power Plant

SunPower (SPWRA) said today it expects to earn $1.75 to $2.05 in its 2011 fiscal year, on revenue of $2.65 to $2.85 b billion. Analyst expectations for earnings per share are similar to what SunPower forecasts, although the company’s revenue expectation is below Wall Street predictions. SunPower also announced today it has sold its Italian subsidiary Orsa Maggiore, and its 16 megawatt Solare Roma photovoltaic power plant to Allianz Renewable Energy Partners. The companies did not disclose terms of the sale.
SunPower shares are trading higher by 1.3% on Thursday.
According to the ETF Finder, SPWRA accounts for 4.23% of the Market Vecotrs Solar Energy ETF (AMEX:KWT), which is trading higher by 1.2% today. Top holdings in the fund include MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE:WFR) at 11.83% of the portfolio, and First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) at 9.62%. Trina Solar (NYSE:TSL) is 8.88%, and JA Solar (NASDAQ:JASO) is 5.04%.
