Bloomberg and Barrons report that Microchip Technology (NASDAQ:MCHP), LSI Corp. (NYSE:LSI) and Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD) are possible targets for leveraged buyouts, according to a Susquehanna International Group analyst note. The report said that these are the only feasible LBO candidates in the sector given the recent rise in share prices, and other constraints.
LSI announced a new storage system, Engenio 2600-HD today, as well as a collaboration with Whamcloud on advancing its Lustre parallel file system performance today.
Also today, AMD said it joined the Lunux Foundation’s MeeGo open source project, and will provide engineering expertise intended to establish the foundations for next-generation mobile platforms and embedded devices.
Microship Technology shares are trading up 0.9% today, while LSI Corp. shares are flat, and Advanced Micro Devices shares are trading up 1.3%.
All three stocks are in the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (AMEX:XSD), making up a total of 12.19% of the fund, which is trading down 0.1% Monday.
AMD is the fourth-largest stock, at 4.2% of the portfolio, behind Atmel (NASDAQ:ATML), Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ:MCHP), and Atheros Communications (ATHR).
