There are two big cell phone maker executive defections to tell you about today.
Nokia (NYSE:NOK) said executive vice president Tero Ojanpera, who has been with the company for more than two decades, is leaving.
He plans to work for a venture fund called Vision+ that will develop applications for Nokia phones, in particular those powered by Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows phone platform.
Meanwhile, Research in Motion’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) senior director of global developer relations, Mike Kirkup, announced on his blog that he has resigned from the company, without saying where he will land next.
Kirkup said that the mobile space is changing so quickly, so now seems like a great time to step back and consider his next steps.
Kirkup pointed to Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings (MMI), HP’s (NYSE:HPQ) shutdown of webOS, and Steve Job’s resignation from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) as evidence of the changes in the sector.
The Blackberry maker has struggled to compete with Apple’s iPhone and Google-Android based phones.
