Research in Motion (RIMM) unveiled its latest competitors for the smartphone market today.
The new BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360 and 9370 smartphones will all run on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, and the company said they are designed to address a large and important segment of the global mobile phone market.
RIM said the new phones are ergonomically designed with a comfortable keyboard and an optical trackpad for one-handed navigation.
GPS, Wi-Fi support, and a 5 mega pixel camera with flash and video recording are all included on the new phones.
The next-generation BlackBerry 7 operating systems introduces an improved browser for smoother navigation and optimized video and gaming experiences, among other features.
The new Curve phones will be available from carriers in Canada this month and around the world in September.
The devices are RIM’s latest challenge to Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone as well as smartphones that run on Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system.
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) have also designed operating systems for smartphone devices, but have not gained as strong a foothold as Android.
Google announced last week it would acquire device maker Motorola Mobility Holdings (MMI).
