Looking at options trading activity among components of the S&P 500 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST), where a total volume of 12,230 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 1.2 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 51.4% of COST's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 2.4 million shares. Especially high volume was seen for the $380 strike call option expiring October 23, 2020, with 763 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 76,300 underlying shares of COST. Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) options are showing a volume of 98,063 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 9.8 million underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 47.8% of PFE's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 20.5 million shares.
Especially high volume was seen for the $39 strike call option expiring November 20, 2020, with 6,963 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 696,300 underlying shares of PFE. Particularly high volume was seen for the $170 strike call option expiring October 23, 2020, with 13,363 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 1.3 million underlying shares of BA.
