Notable Tuesday Option Activity: PLTR, AMT, LAD

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Palantir Technologies Inc (NYSE:PLTR), where a total volume of 267,252 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 26.7 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 59.1% of PLTR's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 45.2 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $25 strike call option expiring October 22, 2021, with 61,771 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 6.2 million underlying shares of PLTR. American Tower Corp (NYSE:AMT) saw options trading volume of 9,343 contracts, representing approximately 934,300 underlying shares or approximately 57.8% of AMT's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.6 million shares.
Especially high volume was seen for the $272.50 strike put option expiring October 22, 2021, with 2,962 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 296,200 underlying shares of AMT. And Lithia Motors Inc (NYSE:LAD) options are showing a volume of 1,872 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 187,200 underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 56.9% of LAD's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 329,065 shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $320 strike put option expiring November 19, 2021, with 423 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 42,300 underlying shares of LAD.
