Noteworthy Thursday Option Activity: AXP, EBAY, URI

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in American Express Co. (NYSE:AXP), where a total volume of 15,221 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 1.5 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 42% of AXP's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 3.6 million shares. Especially high volume was seen for the $140 strike call option expiring October 15, 2021, with 1,745 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 174,500 underlying shares of AXP. eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) options are showing a volume of 23,589 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 2.4 million underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 41.8% of EBAY's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 5.6 million shares.
Especially high volume was seen for the $75 strike call option expiring October 15, 2021, with 2,232 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 223,200 underlying shares of EBAY. And United Rentals Inc (NYSE:URI) options are showing a volume of 2,786 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 278,600 underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 41.7% of URI's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 667,510 shares.
Especially high volume was seen for the $310 strike put option expiring October 15, 2021, with 543 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 54,300 underlying shares of URI.
