Notable Wednesday Option Activity: OVV, GD, MEG

Looking at options trading activity among components of the Russell 3000 index, there is noteworthy activity today in Ovintiv Inc (NYSE:OVV), where a total volume of 52,625 contracts has been traded thus far today, a contract volume which is representative of approximately 5.3 million underlying shares (given that every 1 contract represents 100 underlying shares). That number works out to 189.6% of OVV's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 2.8 million shares. Particularly high volume was seen for the $45 strike call option expiring April 14, 2022, with 16,994 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 1.7 million underlying shares of OVV. General Dynamics Corp (NYSE:GD) options are showing a volume of 13,353 contracts thus far today. That number of contracts represents approximately 1.3 million underlying shares, working out to a sizeable 130.4% of GD's average daily trading volume over the past month, of 1.0 million shares.
Particularly high volume was seen for the $170 strike call option expiring January 21, 2022, with 2,750 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 275,000 underlying shares of GD. Especially high volume was seen for the $65 strike call option expiring January 21, 2022, with 1,575 contracts trading so far today, representing approximately 157,500 underlying shares of MEG.
