Gibraltar Industries (NASDAQ:ROCK) reported a second quarter loss of 2 cents per share. That's down from earnings of 63 cents in the same quarter last year, but marks a significant improvement from the company's first quarter loss of 42 cents. The improvement was driven by restructuring initiatives, and a 6% increase in sales quarter over quarter. The company said it believes its markets have found the bottom, and expects a better second half of the year. Shares jumped 25% in early trading Thursday.
Internet company IncrediMail (MAIL) reported record results for the second quarter, earning 26 cents per share. That's up from 7 cents per share in the same quarter last year, driven by a 29% increase in revenue. Looking ahead, the company said it is launching IncrediMail 2 in the third quarter, and is expecting that will help drive record results again in the fourth quarter. Shares advanced 15 and a half percent in early trading Thursday.
Shares of Hi-Shear Technology (HSR) gained 8%, after reporting earnings for its fiscal year ended May 31, of 98 cents per share. That's an 89% increase over prior year earnings of 52 cents. Hi-Shear serves the aerospace and defense industries, providing pyrotechnic, mechanical, and electronic products.
And SXC Health Solutions (SXCI) reported record results for the second quarter, earning 47 cents per share. That's up from 14 cents in the same quarter last year, driven by a nearly 41% increase in revenue. The company continued to win big contracts subsequent to quarter end, and raised its outlook for the second half. Investors cheered the report, sending shares 26 and a half percent higher Thursday morning.
