Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE:CW) reported third quarter results below expectations, saying that despite the general recent optimism about an economic recovery, the company has yet to see a rebound in its commercial businesses. Net sales were about flat year over year, but earnings fell 27% to 44 cents per share, down from 60 cents in Q3 of 2008. Shares fell more than 9% in trading on Friday.
Barnes Group (NYSE:B) posted a 20 cent profit for the third quarter, down from 49 cents in the same quarter last year. Net sales plunged 22% year over year, and the company said it does not yet seen the sustained signs of a turnaround in the global economy. Shares were off about 10%.
Shares of healthcare staffing company AMN Healthcare Services (NYSE:AHS) fell 9%, after reporting a third quarter loss of 6 cents per share. On an adjusted basis, the loss would have been 5 cents. Revenue plummeted 47% year over year, as the healthcare staffing industry suffered over the past year as unemployment levels increased.
And utility storage company 3PAR (NYSE:PAR) reported a loss for the quarter of a penny per share, which compares to a two cent loss in the same quarter last year. Revenue was about 2% higher year over year, and up 4% from the prior quarter. Shares of 3PAR fell about 7 and a half percent.
