AMD (NYSE:AMD) announced plans to demonstrate the Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D standard at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. AMD is a contributing member of the Blu-ray Disc Association. The new technology is expected to hit store shelves in the second half of next year. Shares of AMD were trading up 7 and three quarters percent Monday, boosted in part by an announcement by rival Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) that its stand-alone graphics chip has been delayed, which would compete with AMD's ATI graphics cards.
Shares of McDermott International (NYSE:MDR) gained 10%, after the company announced it plans to split into two independant publicly traded companies, a move expected to unlock shareholder value. The two new companies will be The Babcock & Wilcox company, focusing on power generation technology including nuclear components, and J. Ray McDermott, focusing on engineering, construction and installation, serving the offshore upstream oil and gas markets.
CF Industries (NYSE:CF) announced it has increased its offer for Terra Industries (TRA), to 37 dollars and 75 cents in cash plus just over one tenth of a share of CF Industries stock for each Terra share. The new offer marks an increase of 4 dollars and 75 cents per share in cash. Shares of CF Industries were trading about flat on the day, while Terra shares were among Monday's big gainers, advancing more than 6 and a half percent.
And shares of embedded microcontroller unit supplier Zilog (ZILG) jumped 18 and a half percent, after an announcement that IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ:IXYS) will purchase the company for 62.4 million dollars in cash, or just under 3 dollars and 59 cents per Zilog share.
