Fairfax Financial Holdings will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Zenith National Insurance (ZNT) common stock, which it does not currently own. The transaction values Zenith at approximately $1.4 billion.
Shares of Zenith are up over 30.5%.
Walgreens (NYSE:WAG) announcement that they are buying Duane Reade is having a positive effect on Rite Aid's (NYSE:RAD) stock today. Speculation that Rite Aid may be next is fueling the fire, with shares of Rite Aid currently up almost 14.5%.
ABB (NYSE:ABB) posted solid profits. Q4 net income was $540 million and they proposed to increase the dividend by 6%.
Currently shares of ABB are up nearly 6.5%.
Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE:CLF) posted fourth-quarter 2009 net income of $0.82 per diluted share, from $0.47 per diluted share, in 2008.
Cliffs Natural Resources shares are up more than 6.25%.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ:GT) saw sales up 7%, and posted net income of 44 cents per share, versus a loss of $1.37 in the same period last year.
Goodyear is trading higher by 5.5%.
And Priceline (NASDAQ:PCLN) increased their revenues by 33.4% versus a year ago. Pro forma net income in the fourth quarter was $1.99 per diluted share, compared to $1.29 per share a year ago. First Call analyst consensus for the fourth quarter 2009 was $1.68 per diluted share.
