Apollo Group (APOL) posted fiscal third quarter earnings late Wednesday of $179.3 million, or $1.18 per share, down from $201.1 million, or $1.26 per share, in the same quarter last year.
The education company, parent to University of Phoenix, said its revenue rose about 28%, to $1.3 billion.
Apollo said it earned $1.74 per share on an adjusted basis, ahead of analyst expectations.
Also late Wednesday, Smith & Wesson (SWHC) reported a huge decline in fiscal fourth quarter earnings. Net income totaled $2.7 million, or $0.04 per share, compared to $7.4 million, or $0.14 per share, in the same quarter last year.
The gun maker said this quarter’s results included liabilities related to an acquisition, which decreased earnings. Adjusted earnings totaled $0.08 per share, ahead of analyst expectations.
