Employers Cut Jobs; Unemployment Rate Drops Friday, July 2, 11:06 AM ET
There are some closely watched economic indicators being released this morning.
The Labor Department on Friday morning announced that employers cut 125,000 jobs last month, the largest drop since October. The loss was mainly attributed to the end of 225,000 temporary Census jobs, and on a positive note, businesses added 83,000 workers to their payrolls, an improvement over May.
The unemployment rate also fell to 9.5 percent, the lowest level it has been at in nearly a year. However, this may be partly attributed to the fact that many workers have given up looking for work, and have left the labor force, and are thus not counted as unemployed.
