In midday trading Thursday, shares of Ameriprise Financial (NYSE:AMP) were trading almost 10% higher, after the company posted second quarter net income of 98 cents per share, more than double what it earned in the same quarter last year. Net revenues surged 38% year over year.
Shares of Citrix Systems (NASDAQ:CTXS) rocketed more than 16% higher, after reporting second quarter earnings of 25 cents per share, with revenue up 17% year over year. Investors also liked the company's optimistic guidance for the second half.
Compellent Technologies (CML) posted a loss of a penny per share, but revenue was up 27% year over year. Investors were pleased with the report, sending shares of Compellent more than 14% higher.
Shares of Five Star Quality Care (NYSE:FVE) surged about 20%, after the senior living and healthcare services company reported second quarter results. Net income fell to 22 cents per diluted share, down from 24 cents in the same quarter last year, but revenues were up 5.7% year over year.
And shares of workforce solutions company SFN Group (NYSE:SFN) rallied 12%, on a strong second quarter earnings report, with earnings from continuing operations coming in at a nickel per share. The company said industry trends continue to be positive and said it was optimistic about the second half of the year.
