Amazon.com is reportedly working on a subscription, internet-based TV and movie service.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon has been pitching the service to media companies like General Electric's (NYSE:GE) NBC Universal, Time Warner (NYSE:TWX), News Corp (NASDAQ:NWS), and Viacom (NASDAQ:VIA).
The Journal said the push is meant to rival companies like Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) in digital programming delivery.
The newspaper said Amazon seems to be planning on focusing on ''catalogue'' content of older shows and movies, and that the service would be available through internet-connected devices on televisions, such as video game consoles.
