Apple Relaxes Restrictions Apps Thursday, September 9, 3:38 PM ET
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) said today it is relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS applications for its devices, as long as the resulting apps do not download any computer code from the devices.
Apple said the move will give developers the flexibility they want, without sacrificing security.
The company is also going to publish the App Store Review Guidelines to help developers understand how it reviews submitted apps.
The relaxed guidelines and increased transparency will fuel many developers in creating apps for Apple’s popular devices. In particular, Adobe shares traded higher on the news, because the company’s previous restrictions prevented any apps using Adobe’s Flash software.
Apple’s App store includes 250,000 apps and 6.5 billion downloads to date on its iPhone, iPod and iPad devices.
Apple shares are trading up over 1.3% Thursday. Adobe shares are getting a boost by over 8.5%.
