Macy’s (NYSE:M) posted an expectation-beating increase in August same-store sales of 4.3% today, saying it has seen strength in the back-to-school season.
Dillards (NYSE:DDS) said its same-store sales were flat in August, compared to the slight decline expected by analysts, and J.C. Penney beat analyst expectations with a same-store sales gain of 2.3%.
At the luxury end of the spectrum, Saks (NYSE:SKS) disappointed Wall Street forecasts with a same-store sales increase of only 1% for August, while Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN) said August sales rose 6.3%, better than analysts predicted.
Discounter Target (NYSE:TGT) said same-store sales grew 1.8% in August, shy of analyst expectations.
