Figures for manufacturing activity in China and the UK are out today.
In China, manufacturing activity as measured by the HSBC China Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index, rose from 49.4 to 51.9 in August, indicating expansion.
The Chinese government's purchasing manager's index was higher, and also indicated expansion.
The SPDR S&P China ETF (AMEX:GXC) is trading up almost 1.6% Wednesday, while the iShares FTSE China (AMEX:FXI) is trading up over 1.4%.
And in the U.K., the purchasing managers index continued to show expansion in August, at 54.3, although the rate of expansion had slowed from 56.9 in July.
The iShares MSCI United Kingdom Index fund (AMEX:EWU) is trading up over 2.2%.
European markets are trading higher today generally, boosted partially by Vivendi's strong earnings announcement.
The Vanguard European ETF (AMEX:VGK) is trading up 2.6%.
