Initial Jobless Claims Fell Last Week Thursday, September 2, 1:52 PM ET
The Labor Department reported today that initial jobless claims fell by 6,000, to 472,000 for the week ending August 28.
The four week moving average of first-time unemployment claims fell by 2,500, to 485,500.
Economists had expected a small increase in initial claims.
Crude oil is trading lower in the wake of the data, to $73.38 a barrel. The DB Oil Fund (AMEX:DBO ) is trading down 1%.
Gold is on the rise today, up almost half a percent to trade at just over $1,250 an ounce. The SPDR Gold Shares (AMEX:GLD ) are higher by nearly .5%.
Retail sales figures have generally been better than expected. The SPDR S&P Retail ETF (AMEX:XRT ) is trading up. 8%.
