Jobless Claims Better than Expected Thursday, September 9, 12:32 PM ET
The Labor Department said today that initial jobless claims declined by 27,000 to a total of 451,000 for the week ending September 4.
This was better than economists had expected. The four-week moving average of jobless claims declined by 9,250 filings to 477,750.
A look at commodities - Gold is trading lower today, around $1,253 an ounce, driving the SPDR Gold Shares (AMEX:GLD) down by .1%, and the Gold Miners ETF (AMEX:GDX) is trading down by .6%.
Oil is trading up, at $75.38 a barrel; the DB Oil Fund (AMEX:DBO) is trading up .7% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is trading up 1%.
