Swiss drug firm Basilea said today that Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) has decided to stop selling the drug Zevtera in Russia, the Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Switerland, as it looks like the drug will not be approved in the U.S. and E.U.
J&J will return rights to sell the drug, which is used to treat skin and soft tissues infections, to Basilea.
Late Wednesday, Questcor Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:QCOR) said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has delayed its decision on whether to approve the company’s supplemental new drug application for Acthar Gel to treat infantile spasms.
Questcor said the FDA needs additional time to finalize wording on the drug’s label, review the proposed medication guide, and define post-approval commitments.
The drug is currently approved to treat multiple sclerosis as well as nephrotic syndrome.
Doctors reportedly currently prescribe it for infants with seizures, even without FDA approval for it to be marketed as such.
