AMREP Corporation (NYSE:AXR), which operates in land development and media services, announced the Vice Chairman of its Board of Directors has offered to take the company private, for 12 dollars per share in cash. AMREP had been trading at a 52 week low yesterday, and jumped about 18% on the news, to change hands above the 12 dollar mark Thursday afternoon. Shares had traded as high as 15 and three quarters per share as recently as as April 27th.
Biopharmaceutical company Santarus (NASDAQ:SNTS) made a joint announcement with S2 Therapeutics and VeroScience, revealing Santarus has been granted exclusive rights to manufacture and commercialize CYCLOSET tablets, an FDA approved prescription drug designed to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Santarus said it expects a commercial launch in November of this year. Shares of Santarus advanced about 17% on the news.
And shares of BSD Medical Corporation (NASDAQ:BSDM) were trading 14% higher, after news that the company's exclusive China distributor has placed orders for two of BSD's Hyperthermia Systems, which are designed to treat certain cancerous tumors with targeted therapeutic heating.
