The Steel ETF (AMEX:SLX) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Wednesday, with over 2.2 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 154,000. Shares of SLX were up about 2.6% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Wednesday were Vale (NYSE:VALE), trading up about 1% with over 11.4 million shares changing hands so far this session, and AK Steel Holding (NYSE:AKS), up about 4.6% on volume of over 10.9 million shares. Allegheny Technologies (NYSE:ATI) is the component faring the best Wednesday, up by about 8.7% on the day, while Gerdau (NYSE:GGB) is lagging other components of the Steel ETF, trading lower by about 1.1%.
