Investors this week will be closely monitoring political events in Egypt and dissecting President Obama's budget proposal.
Good morning, I’m Sayoko Murase, with the “Week Ahead Market Report” for February 14, 2011.
In overseas trading, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average was higher by 1.1 percent, and the Hang Seng Index was higher by nearly 1.3 percent. The FTSE 100 flat for the day, while the German DAX higery by a little over three tenths of a percent. In the US, the Dow is is flat today, while the Nasdaq and S&P are each higher by about two tenths of a percent.
Data due to be released this week includes retail sales business inventories on Tuesday, housing starts and producer prices on Wednesday, and CPI and initial claims on Thursday.
On the earnings front, expect to hear from Bluefly (NASDAQ:BFLY) on Monday, Century Aluminum (NASDAQ:CENX) and Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) on Tuesday, Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) on Wednesday, and ARIAD Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ARIA) on Thursday.
