Investors this week will be closely monitoring political events in Libya and the direction of oil prices, which could have a negative impact on any economic recovery.
Good morning, I’m Kristin Bianco, with the “Week Ahead Market Report” for February 28, 2011.
In overseas trading, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average was higher by 0.92 percent, and the Hang Seng Index was higher by 1.42 percent. The FTSE 100 was higher by about three tenths of a percent, while the German DAX increased by over 1.6 percent. In the US, the Dow is higher by about three quarters of a percent, the Nasdaq is higher by over half a percent, and the S&P is higher by almost seven tenths of a percent in early trading.
Data due to be released this week includes auto and truck sales on Tuesday, crude inventories on Wednesday, inital claims on Thursday, and the unemployment rate on Friday.
On the earnings front, expect to hear from Ares Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:ARCC) and Verifone Systems (NYSE:PAY) on Tuesday, WebMediaBrands (WEBM) on Wednesday, Anadys Pharmaceuticals (ANDS) on Thursday, and United Bancshares (NASDAQ:UBOH) on Friday.
