Shares of trucking company J.B. Hunt Transport Services (NASDAQ:JBHT) are on the rise today after it reported a 34% gain in first quarter earnings after the close of trading yesterday.
J.B. Hunt said increased fuel surcharges helped offset rising costs, leading it earn $50.1 million, or $0.40 per share, compared to $37.5 million, or $0.29 per share, in last year’s first quarter.
Revenue rose 18%, to $1 billion.
Results exceeded analyst expectations.
J.B. Hunt shares are trading up over 4.2% Thursday.
A check of some of its trucking competitors: Landstar System (NASDAQ:LSTR) shares are trading up .7%, while Swift Transportation (NYSE:SWFT) shares trade up .2%.
