Hanover Insurance Group (NYSE:THG) reported first quarter earnings late yesterday of $29.3 million, or $0.64 per share, down from $41.8 million, or $0.87 per share, in the same quarter last year.
Adjusted earnings of $0.53 per share were a few cents ahead of analyst expectations.
Net premiums written rose 3.4%, to $749.9 million, the company said.
Also late yesterday, Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE:HIG) posted first quarter earnings of $511 million, or $1.01 per share, compared to $319 million, or a loss of $0.42 per share.
Adjusted earnings of $1.16 per share were well ahead of analyst expectations
