U.S. politicians have failed to come to an agreement on raising the debt ceiling, and global concerns over the impasse are weighing on the markets.
Stocks are down Monday, with the SPDR S&P 500 (AMEX:SPY) trading lower by one percent.
The dollar is taking a hit versus other major currencies. The U.S. Dollar Bullish Fund (AMEX:UUP) is trading about even. The Euro Trust (AMEX:FXE) is trading lower by a tenth of a percent, while the WisdomTree Dreyfus Japanese Yen Fund (AMEX:JYF) trades flat.
The iShares Barclays 3-7 Year Treasury Bond Fund (AMEX:IEI) is trading lower by about a tenth of a percent, while the Vanguard Intermediate-Term Government Bond ETF (NASDAQ:VGIT) trades lower by about a tenth of a percent.
The safe-haven of gold is trading higher, leading the SPDR Gold Shares (AMEX:GLD) to trade higher by about one percent, and the iShares Gold Trust (AMEX:IAU) to trade higher by about one percent.
