Investors start off the trading session this Monday morning fretting about the unresolved situation concerning the U.S. debt.
Good morning, I'm Kristin Bianco, with the Week Ahead Market Report for July 18, 2011.
In overseas trading, Japans Nikkei 225 Stock Average was higher by about four tenths of a percent, and the Hang Seng Index was lower by about three tenths of a percent percent.
The FTSE 100 was lower by about one percent, and the German DAX was lower by about two tenths of a percent.
In the US, the markets are sharply lower in early trading action.
Key data due to be released this week includes housing starts on Tuesday, existing home sales on Wednesday, initial and continuing claims on Thursday, and leading indicators on Friday.
On the earnings front, expect to hear from Ameriserv Financial (NASDAQ:ASRV) on Tuesday, American Express (NYSE:AXP) and Astoria Financial (AF) on Wednesday, Bank Mutual (BKMU) on Thursday, and Caterpillar (CAT) on Friday.
