New of the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il ñ and the uncertainty it creates for the country and the region ñ is leading Asian markets lower today.
South Korean markets are predictably seeing losses Monday.
The iShares MSCI South Korea Index Fund (NYSE:EWO) is trading lower. Stocks in the fund include foreign-listed names Samsung, Hyundai and Posco (NYSE:PKX).
The First Trust South Korea AlphaDEX Fund (FKO) was unchanged early in Monday morning's trade.
The iShares S&P Asia 50 Index Fund (NASDAQ:AIA), which counts Samsung, Taiwan Semiconductor and China Construction Bank among its top holdings, is trading lower.
The SPDR S&P Emerging Asia Pacific ETF (NYSE:GMF) is also taking a hit.
Its top holdings include the U.S.-listed stocks of Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM) as well as Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU).
Gold, meantime, is being buoyed by an investor flight to safety today.
The iShares Gold Trust (NYSE:IAU) and the SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE:GLD) are both trading higher, as well.
