Mead-Johnson Nutrition (NYSE:MJN) said today it has conducted a new round of tests on a batch of its Enfamil Newborn powdered formula, and did not detect any presence of Cronobacter bacteria.
The company said it can say with confidence that the formula is safe.
An infant in Missouri died last week due to the rare bacteria after being fed the brand of formula, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration began an investigation.
Mead-Johnson noted the test results are consistent with independent media tests, and that the FDA is expected to begin testing for environmental sources of the Cronobacter involved in the case.
Retailers, including Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT), Walgreen (NYSE:WAG), Kroger (NYSE:KR), Supervalu (NYSE:SVU) and Safeway (NYSE:SWY) had pulled the formula from shelves last week.
