Adobe Systems (NASDAQ:ADBE) posted fiscal fourth quarter earnings after the close of trading late yesterday.
Profits fell to $173.7 million, or $0.35 per share, from $269 million, or $0.53 per share, in last year's fourth quarter.
Adjusted earnings of $0.67 per share beat analyst expectations.
The software designer said revenue rose 14%, to $1.15 billion, also ahead of expectations.
Adobe, which competes larger rivals like Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), said it expects adjusted earnings per share of $0.54 to $0.59, on revenue of $1.03 billion to $1.08 billion. Both ranges are ahead of analyst expectations at the high end.
Adobe shares appear poised for a day of gains Friday.
Also late yesterday, Research in Motion (RIMM) reported fiscal third quarter earnings that fell to $265 million, or $0.51 per share, from $911 million, or $1.74 per share, last year.
The maker of BlackBerry smartphones and tablet devices said adjusted earnings totaled $1.27 per share, ahead of analyst forecasts.
Revenue fell 6% to $5.2 billion, shy of analyst expectations.
Research in Motion said it expects fourth quarter earnings of $0.80 to $0.90 per share, well below analyst forecasts.
