Wendy's (NASDAQ:WEN) announced the grand opening of its first restaurant in Japan as part of its joint venture with Higa Industries.
The restaurant is located in Tokyo's Omotesando area.
Wendy's Japan plans to open around 100 restaurants in the next five years, and see long-term market potential of 700 restaurants in the country.

Wendy's will serve its most popular items in Japan, as well as a special Avocado Wasabi hamburger and a Truffle and Porcini Grilled Chicken sandwich, created just for the market.
Fast food rivals McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) and Yum! Brands (NYSE:YUM) already have significant presences in Japan.
Wendy's shares had not yet trade in Tuesday's premarket session.
