The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (AMEX:VOO) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Thursday, with over 5.1 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 557,000. Shares of VOO were off about 0.9% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Thursday were Bank of America (NYSE:BAC), trading down about 3% with over 128.2 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S), up about 0.7% on volume of over 45.1 million shares. Red Hat (NYSE:RHT) is the component faring the best Thursday, up by about 14.3% on the day, while Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) is lagging other components of the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, trading lower by about 9.7%.
