Optimism over the possibility of further stimulus from the Federal Reserve kept the markets in positive territory today.
There were mixed results on the economic front as the latest report from the Commerce Department showed a 4.8 percent drop in housing starts in May, to a seasonally adjusted 708,000 units.
Building permits on the other hand, rose to a four-year high.
Shares of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) got a boost after the company unveiled the Surface, which is its own tablet to rival Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad. There's no word yet on a price point for the new device.
Also among tech stocks, Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) rallied today after beating earnings expectation. The company was originally slated to post results later this week.
Tomorrow, we'll take a look at the numbers for weekly mortgage applications as well as earnings from Bed, Bath and Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY).
