American Express (NYSE:AXP) reported its third-quarter earnings per share of $1.09, which came in line with estimates, and up from $1.03 per share last year, due to a lower share count. Net income from operations was higher by one percent to $1.25 billion from $1.23 billion. Total billed business was higher by 6% year over year to $220.1 billion.
Shares are lower by about 2.8 percent.
Rival Visa (NYSE:V) is set to report on October 31, with analysts expecting earnings per share of $1.50.
