Consumer Sentiment Index Rises Friday, October 26, 5:33 PM ET
The University of Michigan's index of October consumer sentiment increased to to 82.6 from 78.3 last month, the highest since September of 2007.
Falling gas prices contributed to the better outlook, as well as a lower unemployment rate.
A government report also said that consumer spending helped increased economic growth during the most recent quarter to a 2 percent annual rate, up from 1.3 percent last quarter.
