Abercrombie and Fitch (NYSE:ANF) announced that it earned $71.5 million, or 87 cents per share, versus $50.9 million, or 57 cents per share, in the same period last year. Analysts had expected earnings of 59 cents per share. Revenue increased by 9 percent to $1.17 billion, fueled by a 37 percent increase internationally. Same store sames fell by 3 percent, which was an improvement over the 10 percent drop during the second quarter.
Shares are sharply higher in early trading.
Rival American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO) is schedule to announce earnings on November 28, with analysts expecting earnings per share of 39 cents.
